Skills Development Programs

Recreational 14+ Program / Masters 1

For the skater who loves to go fast, skills development is the key. There are two levels of Skills Development before skaters move on to either the Recreational (14+), Masters 1 (30+), or Competitive programs.

Skills Development 1 is appropriate for skaters with good basic skating skills, and possibly some speed skating training.

Skills Development 2 is appropriate for skaters with strong skating skills and previous speed skating training.

With learning still focused on the fun of participating in sport, key skills are developed through instruction, drills, games and fun racing. Skaters continue through progressively more advanced skills development, working their way through the various levels of the Speed Skating Canada Cutting Edge Pin Program.

The recreational program is for skaters (14+) with speed skating experience who want to continue to improve their speed skating skills, and may enjoy competing, but on a recreational basis.

Masters 1 is for adults 30 and above with basic speed skating skills.  They may or may not participate in speed skating competitions at the Masters level.

This program provides technical instruction, conditioning training, and fun but challenging activities.
