Off to a Good Start Introductory Programs 6:30 - 7:10 PM Tuesdays and Thursdays

CA$85.00

Off to a Good Start includes the On the Ice Together, Skating On My Own, and Full Speed Ahead programs.


Subject to availability, speed skates are provided for use during the program. Skaters must provide their own helmet (hockey type helmet with cage for facial protection) and sturdy gloves, and may wear their own hockey-type skates if preferred. Knee pads are recommended, but only required for the Full Speed Ahead program.

Off to a Good Start Introductory Programs 6:30 - 7:10 PM Tuesdays and Thursdays - returning skaters

Speed Skating Skills Development Program 7:10 - 7:50 PM Tuesdays and Thursdays

For the skater who loves to go fast, skills development is the key. With learning still focused on the fun of participating in sport, key skills are developed through instruction, drills, games and fun racing. Skaters continue through progressively more advanced skills development, working their way through the various levels of the Speed Skating Canada Cutting Edge Pin Program. Skaters can continue into the Recreational Program, or the Competitive Program.


SSC/SSNS annual fees ($30) are included in the fees shown. They are payable only once per season, and will be deducted from the fees shown if paid earlier in the season.

Recreational 14+ Program 7:10-7:50 Tuesdays only

CA$180.00 CA$150.00

The recreational program is for skaters (14+) with good skating skills who want to try speed skating or improve their speed skating skills, and may enjoy competing, but on a recreational basis. This program provides technical instruction, conditioning training, and fun but challenging activities.

2020 - 2021 Speed Skating Skills Development 1

CA$125.00 - CA$250.00

This program is new this year. Speed Skating Skills Development 1 is for skaters with good skating skills who are ready to begin learning speed skating skills on the full ice surface. Skaters may have previously completed the Full Speed Ahead program, or may have good skating skills from previous training or other sports.


Speed skates are available for rent from the club, see this link.


Skaters will need safety equipment including a helmet, safety glasses, neck protector, cut-resistant gloves, knee pads, shin guards and Kevlar or Dyneema ankle protection. Contact the club for information.


Skaters must register separately with Speed Skating Canada / Speed Skate Nova Scotia through the IceReg system at this link before the first ice session. Select the Payment Plan Preregistration option.

Racing for Fun Competitive Program 8:00 PM Thursdays

CA$300.00 - CA$500.00

The Racing for Fun group offers programs for skaters developing basic speed skating skills, and beginning to attend formal competitions and/or are interested in incorporating skating training into an active lifestyle.

Racing for Performance Competitive Program 8:00 PM Tuesdays and/or Thursdays

The Racing for Performance group is for skaters with advanced speed skating skill who meet performance standards and regularly compete at national events, and are beginning to specialize into either short track or long track disciplines.

SSC/SSNS annual fees at the Competitive level($50) are included in the fees shown. They are payable only once per season, and will be deducted from the fees shown if paid earlier in the season. If a skater will be competing at national competitions, they will require an Elite level registration. Please contact the Registrar to arrange this if it is required.

Masters Program 8:00 PM Tuesdays

CA$280.00 - CA$480.00

The Masters program for adult skaters with strong speed skating skills. Skaters will be on the ice with the Racing for Performance group. Entry into the programis subject to the approval of the head coach.


SSC/SSNS annual fees at the Participant level($30) are included in the fees shown. They are payable only once per season, and will be deducted from the fees shown if paid earlier in the season.

2020-2021 Competitive / Masters 2 8:00 PM Tuesdays and/or Thursdays

CA$525.00 - CA$1,000.00

The Competive program is for skaters with strong speed skating skills who meet performance standards. Entry to the group for the first time is subject to the approval of the Head Coach.


Masters 2 is for adult skaters with strong speed skating skills. This program is on the ice with the Competitive program. Short track speed skates must be used.


Skaters must register separately with Speed Skating Canada / Speed Skate Nova Scotia through the IceReg system at this link before the first ice session. Select the Payment Plan Preregistration option.

2020-2021 Skills Development 2 / Masters 1 7:10 PM Tuesdays and/or Thursdays

The Skills Development 2 program would be suitable for skaters who participated in last year's Skills Development program, or skaters with strong skating skills and preferably some basic speed skating training. Programs start on October 6, 2020 and run until March 11, 2021, with no ice sessions on November 26, and December 22, 24, 29 and 31, 2020 and January 7, 2021.


Masters 1 is for adult skaters with strong skating skills who would like to learn to speed skate. This program is on the ice with the Skills Development 2 program. Long track skates may be used for this program, but short track speed skates would be preferable.


Skaters must register separately with Speed Skating Canada / Speed Skate Nova Scotia through the IceReg system at this link before the first ice session. Select the Payment Plan Preregistration option.

Special Olympics Learn to Skate or Speed Skating Programs

CA$50.00

Special Olympics speed skating has three levels.


Special Olympics 1, included in the Off to a Good Start suite of programs, and offering introductory learn to skate and learn to speed skate programs, is not offered in the fall of 2020 due to Covid-19 restrictions.


Special Olympics 2 is suitable for skaters who were on the ice with the Full Speed Ahead segment of the Off to Good Start program at 6:30 PM on Tuesdays or Thursdays last season. This programs will be on the ice with the Speed Skating Skills Development 1 program at 6:30 PM on Thursdays. Programs start on October 8, 2020 and run until March 11, 2021, with no ice sessions on November 26 and December 24 and 31, 2020 and January 7, 2021.


Special Olympics 3 is suitable for athletes who are strong skaters and have previous speed skating experience. This program is on the ice with Speed Skating Skills Development 2 at 7:10 on Tuesdays/7:10 on Thursdays. Programs start on October 6, 2020 and run until March 11, 2021, with no ice sessions on November 26 and December 22, 24, 29 and 31, 2020 and January 7, 2021.


Fee is for the full season and can be adjusted or waived if not affordable.

Adult Learn to Skate Program 6:30 - 7:10 PM Tuesdays

Learn to skate /skating improvement program for adults.


Skaters must provide their own helmet and sturdy gloves. Subject to availability, speed skates may be available for use during the program or skaters may wear their own skates.Soft volleyball-type knee pads are recommended.
