Volunteer Activities

VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES

The club is registered non-profit organization mainly run by volunteers.  We pay our Head Coach, and provide a small honorarium to our youth coaches. In addition to those costs, club fees cover the cost of ice time, marketing of programs, purchase and maintenance of skates and equipment, costs of running meets, and general day to day expenses.

Following is a list of the main activities carried out by volunteers.

Preseason activities, April to June

Collection of rented skates and equipment from members
Sharpening and maintenance of skate inventory
Maintenance of the safety pad inventory
Negotiation of ice time for the season starting in September
Review of program activities for the past season and identification of any changes needed for the upcoming season
Planning of Interclub meets and the Dartmouth Crossing Sprints
Preparation of financial statements and organization of the Annual General Meeting, including recruitment of new board members
Annual General Meeting of the members

Preparation for the start of programs, July-August

Finalization of ice time contracts
Preparation of budgets
Identification of program operating costs for the upcoming season
Development of fee structure for programs
Recruitment of new coaches
Cleaning of loaned safety equipment and identification of need for purchases of new equipment
Setup of IceReg registration system

Program marketing and registration, August-September

Operation of IceReg system
Responding to queries about programs

Operation of learn to skate and speed skating programs October-March

Dartmouth Crossing Speed Skating Club recognizes the support of the Province of Nova Scotia. We are pleased to work in partnership with the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage to develop and promote our cultural resources for all Nova Scotians.
